This quarter horse mare comes in a very pretty light silver grullo coloring, with only a small star for white markings. She has good dun factor and lots of frosting in her mane and tail. We have given this mare the barn name of Zipper. Zipper has grown over the last year and now stand at 15 hands, aprox 1050 pounds.
Zipper is a fairly nicely balanced mare, with a nice full hip, her neck ties in nicely at the shoulder with a short top line, a pretty refined neck and a pretty head with lots of definition and big round eyes.
Zipper came to us as one of those horses you always had to leave the halter on because otherwise you couldnt catch her. She had had very little previous handling, so we had to start at ground level with her. We are happy to say that she no longer requires a halter left on and is easy to catch now, she is also going well under saddle and good with her feet. Zipper is a quiet natured mare and a bit on the shy side. Zipper had 60 days professional training put on her fall/winter of 2004. She was then given the rest of winter off as she was in foal and we didn't want to put to much strain on her body or stress her out. Zipper is very quick on her feet, very sure footed, with lots of snap under saddle. She is the type who takes a little longer to learn something, but once she understands what you want, she's got it. To date she has never offered to buck under saddle. We will put some additional time on her next year after she has foaled and had some time to just be a mother.
Update* We started Zipper back under saddle on October 18, 2005 after having 11 months off and we were very impressed to see how well she retained her training, she carried on almost as if she had never been off. We will continue her training until she is too heavy in foal again and then continue on after foaling in 2006. I have convinced my husband to sell me this pretty mare for my future riding mare.
