Meet our junior stallion here at Sherman Farms Grullo Quarter Horses. This young fella is grullo in color with no white markings, he is a more silver toned grullo in coloring with plenty of dun factor. We brought this young stallion up from Missouri as well. This young stallion has a nice hip, a broad chest on him, with good thick bone, and big ol feet, a pretty head with a big kind eye, good wither, a nice clean throat latch and a beautiful neckline that ties in nicely at his chest. He has been given the barn name of Gizzy, as he arrived here looking very much like a gangly teenager who needed lots of time to fill out, mature, and to level out in his growth patterns. Gizzy has done a lot of growing over the winter of 2005/2006 and filled out tremendously. We measured Gizzy for height on January 24, 2006 and he currently measures 15.3.5 hands and aprox 1250 pounds. Gizzy is going to be a big boy with lots of substance. His bloodlines are reining and old foundation breeding. He comes from a long line of horses carrying the dun gene, with two parents carrying the dun gene it is possible he could be homozygous for dun factor. Gizzy has been genetically tested and proven for his grullo coloring. He also was tested for the creme gene and does not carry any copies of the creme gene. We believe he will rank fairly high in the foundation registries, and we will be registering him with NFQHA once we have the results back on his percentages. Next line off pedigree above he goes to such names as Bill Cody, Steel Bars, King, Hollywood Gold, and Pretty Buck to name a few. With his breeding we feel he will make a good cross on some of our mares, offering us more diversity in our breeding program, and what we can offer you in the line of foals down the road. Gizzy has had lots of ground training and now has a year of riding under saddle. Gizzy has a big, big stride, and lots of stop and is extremely smooth to ride, a big mover that can really cover the ground and is sure footed too. He has a nice smooth slow lope. He's very sensitive to his rider's cues under saddle.. He has shown a lot of interest in working cattle and has been used to work buffalo, he was also taught to drive, but has primarily just continued to be trained under saddle. We decided not to breed Gizzy in 2004 so as not to interfere with his training. Update: In 2005 we picked a select group of mares to breed Gizzy to with a 100% conception rate. We have bred him to a variety of colors silver grullo, black, dun, red dun, and buckskin so we should get to see what colors he will produce. He was both hand bred and pasture bred and is very respectable. He is extremely gentle with his mares and can be kept with mares or after breeding we put him in with a gelding for company and he is just super with him, not aggresive or pushy in the slightest. We could not be more pleased with him when it comes to stallion manners. We will be excitedly waiting for his foals to hit the ground in 2006! See his first foal crop click here. |
